Yesterday Ubud Muay Thai welcomed Muay Thai athletes from Tangerang, Banten, to our camp to have a try-out sparring session with our fighters as their preparation towards the Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV) Banten 2022 which will be held in November this year. Provincial Sports Week or PORPROV is a provincial-level multi-sport event held every 4 years in Indonesia. This event will be featuring competition in more than 40 different sports, including Muay Thai and Kick Boxing. This year, PORPROV Banten raise the theme of becoming a Champion, which aligned with Ubud Muay Thai's training spirit and mentality.
During their visit, they are having Muay Thai sparring sessions with 8 fighters from our camp (both from Bali and overseas) and from the Denpasar Muay Thai community, to get them ready for the competition ahead. Sparring is the closest we can get to a real fighting situation and here is why it’s so important for an athlete to have sparring sessions to prepare them for a combat competition.
As Agustino Ramli, General Secretary of the Tangerang Branch said “We really enjoyed this try-out sparring experience with Ubud Muay Thai which holds the same training spirit as ours, that every athlete shouldn't just memorize the technique. What's more important is to build and sharpen muscle memory. Because it's a part of the art of martial arts, especially Muay Thai”.
These sparring sessions were also showcased to our members who are visiting the camp on that day. This is a great opportunity for them to catch a glimpse of what kind of training a Muay Thai athlete should prepare for a fighting competition.
Aside from the sparring sessions, our new friends from Tangerang also had an opportunity to watch the regular Muay Thai training sessions in our camp and get a grasp on how our experienced trainers nurture our members to become the next homegrown fighters.
Through this opportunity, we are very excited to be able to join and participate to support the Indonesian Muay Thai athletes by providing them the platform to further improve both their Muay Thai skills and fighting mentality. As with the theme that we carried this year, "Stronger Together", we believe that only through collaboration, we can be much stronger than we currently are.
Join us and become our next homegrown fighter! Ubud Muay Thai offers a variety of Muay Thai and conditioning classes to our members with some of the best trainers in Bali!
